In the Future
O'Fallon Public Library is working hard to meet the needs of a growing population.
The library completed the second floor, expanded its collections, and added staff in 1999.
Cards for Residents
If you live or own property within the O'Fallon city limits, you pay taxes to support the library. You may get a library card, free of charge, by providing proof of residence (driver's license, apartment lease, etc.). Kids may get a card of their own once they are six years old or in first grade.
Cards for Non-Residents
If you live outside O'Fallon's city limits and do not own other property within the city, you do not pay taxes to support O'Fallon Public Library. However, you may obtain a library card by paying an annual fee equal to what the average O'Fallon homeowner pays in library taxes each year. This amount varies from year to year. Check with a staff member to get the current fee for a non-resident card.
Loan & Renewal Periods
Patrons may renew materials by phone or in person. The check-out period for books, magazines, videotapes, and audiotapes is two weeks.
The library can arrange for longer check-out periods for out-of-town vacations or classroom needs.
You may renew an item unless another patron has requested it.
Fines
Fines are 10¢ per day for all items.
Your Responsibilities as a Patron
- Bring your card when you visit the library. You must have your card to check out materials or use the Internet.
- Call the library at once if you lose your card. You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card up to the time we get notification of the loss. There is a small charge for a replacement card.
- If you are moving, notify the library.
- Renew materials by calling or coming in. You may renew an item unless another patron has requested it.
- Take good care of library materials. They benefit the entire community. Never take items out without checking them out. Never mistreat materials or tear out pages or pictures from books, newspapers, or magazines.
- Make sure children under 12 years of age are accompanied by an adult or responsible teenager.
We Get Better... With Your Help!
Every year, numerous individuals, families, organizations, and businesses support the library in many special ways. If you want to help, you can choose the option that appeals to you:
- Make a monetary donation in your name or in honor of another person. You may specify how you want it used (for books, tapes, subscriptions, future expansion, furniture, artwork, trees, etc.) or leave the decision up to the library staff.
- Become a volunteer. Reshelf books, tell a story, help with the Summer Reading Program, present a program... there are so many possibilities. Check with a staff member at the Circulation Desk to get in contact with the library's Volunteer Coordinator.
- Join the Friends of O'Fallon Public Library. The group meets every other month. Their principal fundraiser is a used-book sale. All proceeds benefit the library.
- Donate your used books, to help the Friends group raise much-needed funds.
- Tell others about the library's many valuable offerings. The library provides many valuable resources at no charge, offering patrons the ability to save a considerable amount of money.
