Pan Am Flights Draw Regional Ticket Sales
Belleville, IL (September 26, 2000) -- MidAmerica St. Louis Airport is proving to be more of a regional draw than first thought, according to Floyd "Rick" Hargrove, the airport's director.
Hargrove gave data to St. Clair County Board members at their meeting Monday night that St. Louis city and St. Louis County residents bought 21 percent of Pan Am tickets in August, a number that includes advance reservations.
"I'm very pleased with that number," Hargrove said, adding he expected it to be between 10 percent and 15 percent. Another 47 percent of the 1,168 Pan Am tickets sold in August came from St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties.
Hargrove also said Pan Am is selling tickets to travelers as far north as Springfield and as far south as Cape Giradeau, Mo. Folks north and west of St. Louis also are buying tickets in surprising numbers - 35 St. Charles County residents bought Pan Am tickets in August.
"People are becoming more and more aware of MidAmerica Airport," Hargrove said. Hargrove also said Pan Am officials have told him the airline is happy with ticket sales at MidAmerica.
"They have told me that they're very pleased," he said. "We are running higher than expected."
