Commission OKs Budget
$6.5 Million For Airport
Belleville, IL (December 22, 2000) -- Instead of repainting all safety guidance stripes on the runway, MidAmerica St. Louis Airport Director Floyd "Rick" Hargrove said only the runway's center line will be repainted.
That decision was one of the cost-cutting measures Hargrove used to trim his final 2001 budget by 8 percent, or $500,000. The St. Clair County Public Building Commission approved the $6.5 million budget at its Thursday morning meeting.
"We're very pleased with the financial operating issues regarding the airport," said commission member James Nations.
The runway painting decision saved more than $100,000. In addition, some marketing cutbacks, including the number of brochures to be printed, were made since the commission approved Hargrove's preliminary budget in November.
The commission approved its own $8.2 million budget for operating county buildings Thursday. The commission's 2001 budget will drop 7.9 percent from its 2000 budget.
Money for a 3 percent pay raise for employees at county buildings and renovations of the entrance plaza at the county courthouse are included in the budget.
