O'Fallon Company To Seek Tenants For MidAmerica Airport
O'FALLON, IL (April 20, 2001) -- An O'Fallon company will try to bring tenants to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.
At its monthly meeting Thursday, the St. Clair County Public Building Commission approved a finder's agreement with S.L. Enterprises. County officials hope the company will bring air cargo, warehousing or distribution companies to the airport. S.L. Enterprises works with those kinds of businesses.
S.L. Enterprises will work on commission, meaning the only way the company will make any money is if the airport signs a contract with a business that S.L. Enterprises steers to the airport. The O'Fallon company will not have involvement in lease negotiations unless requested by the county. Should S.L. Enterprises bring new tenants to the airport, it will receive a percentage of gross revenues the county makes from the new tenants.
Floyd "Rick" Hargrove, the airport director, said the contract creates opportunities for the airport, which he thinks is well-positioned to attract the clients S.L. Enterprises works with. "It gives us all kind of potential," he said. "With a lot of land available, we are the logical choice for increased cargo capacity in the St. Louis area."
After the commission's meeting, St. Clair County Administrator Dan Maher said there is nothing eminent on the possibility of Phoenix Provider, a local start-up cargo airline that last summer, announced plans to begin operating at MidAmerica. Maher said the company is still looking for funding.
"It's the availability of money for that kind of investment that's causing the problem," Maher said.
In other airport-related business, the commission Thursday:
- Approved contracts for rubber removal and runway paint striping at the airport. The rubber removal will be performed by Speidel Construction of Fredericksburg, Va., for $18,871.76. Hargrove said the rubber removal needs to be done once a year for safety purposes. The runway painting contract was awarded to Hi-Lite Markings of Adams Center, N.Y., for $34,293. The county had budgeted $39,000 for that work.
- Heard Hargrove say MidAmerica has been recognized as the 2001 Airport of the Year in the reliever airport category by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The award honors the airport's excellent maintenance work.
