Bids Sought For MidAmerica Airport Phone System
BELLEVILLE, IL (August 23, 1999) -- Improving telephone service and maintenance of MidAmerica Airport were among the issues discussed at the Public Building Commission meeting on Thursday.
MidAmerica Airport issues included natural gas, a concessions contract and insurance for the contractors involved in the construction of the Scott runway.
The board voted to accept telecommunications contracts from Lucent Technologies to upgrade their telephone systems, creating a local area network (LAN) to include the court building, 19 Public Square, and the jail. Lucent's bid was $66,098.12.
The board considered the natural gas distribution system recently completed for Patriot's Landing, the military housing project built to replace the Cardinal Creek subdivision, which will wind up between the airport's runways.
The Air Force urged the county to transfer its maintenance to a third party. The county board agreed, and left the operation to Illinois Power. Muny Outdoor Services was chosen to do landscaping at the Patriot Landing housing complex.
The board selected Haier Plumbing and Heating of Okawville to provide the backup power and water systems for the airport and selected Old World Industries of Northbrook to furnish the potassium acetate liquid deicer for the runways.
A concessions contract was proposed by a group identified as IRMC. The company will initially install, and service vending machines. When the airport's volume reaches 150,000 passengers, they will build a kiosk and increase the number of vendors at the airport. Once traffic has increased to 300,000, a quick services restaurant will be added.
After much discussion, the board adopted closeout procedures for the owner controlled insurance program covering the contractors at MidAmerica Airport working on the Scott runway. The program will expire on Sept. 30.
