Public Safety
The O'Fallon Police Department is a growing agency of 56 full-time members: 42 full-time, sworn commissioned officers and 14 full-time civilian support personnel (2001 data). 1994 figures: 27 officers and 11 civilians.
This full service agency includes patrol, criminal investigation, and telecommunications divisions, as well as training, records, and administration sections. Patrol officers may further specialize in traffic, bike patrol, K-9, DARE, school resource officer, etc. Detectives may further specialize in narcotics, arson, St. Louis Major Case Squad, Crime Scene, etc.
The 9-1-1 system has been in operation since November of 1991 and is an integral part of the 13 point public service answering point network of St. Clair County. The O'Fallon Police Department is located on East Washington next to Fire Station One [Map].
The Emergency Medical Division operates two life support vehicles around the clock with rare exception. These units are manned by men and women with qualifications unsurpassed in Southern Illinois.
The O'Fallon Fire Department protects a 47 square mile area with over 30 dedicated volunteer firefighters and 14 pieces of apparatus stationed in three fire houses -- two in O'Fallon and one in Shiloh. The department is actually two departments in one -- serving the city of O'Fallon and the rural areas of O'Fallon, Shiloh Valley and Caseyville Townships, and the Village of Shiloh.
Station One is located on East Washington near North Lincoln next to the O'Fallon Police Department [Map]. Station Two is located at Highway 50 and West Third Street [Map].
Station Three is located on Seibert Road in Shiloh next to the Shiloh Police Department [Map].
Equipment operated by the department consists of two mini-pumpers, one 1000 GPM, three 1250 GPM, and two 1500 GPM pumpers, a rescue truck, a 100 foot aerial tower truck, a brush truck, a 2050 gallon tanker, an extended cab pickup serving as a utility vehicle, and an electrical generator trailer. All apparatus are fully equipped with up to date, top quality firefighting appliances.
During 1995, our fire department responded to over 430 calls with an average response time of less than five minutes. During 1997, the department responded to 403 calls with an average response time of just over four minutes. In 1998, the O'Fallon Volunteer Fire Department responded to 441 calls with an average response time of under four minutes. In 2002, OVFD responded to 639 calls - a 59% increase in just 5 years.
In 1999, our Fire Department responded to 549 calls. The 1999 total included 57 structure fires, 27 vehicle fires, 79 brush fires, 14 rescue calls, 144 'good intention' calls, 90 false alarms, 126 hazardous false condition responses, and 30 mutual aid calls. The department received mutual aid 23 times.
